Report: Bronny James set to ink multi-year, guaranteed deal with Los Angeles Lakers

Bronny James Secures Guaranteed Contract with Los Angeles Lakers: A Rare Occurrence for Second-Round Picks

The Los Angeles Lakers are set to sign a multi-year guaranteed contract with 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Bronny James. This news was reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic. According to sources, the contract will ensure that when the 2024-25 season kicks off, James will be an established player on the team alongside his father, LeBron James.

It is uncommon for second-round picks to receive guaranteed contracts, as they usually have to prove themselves at NBA Summer League and in team training camps to secure a two-way deal. However, Bronny James’ agent, Rich Paul, made it clear that he would not settle for a two-way contract in an interview with Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report. Paul emphasized that his client deserved a guaranteed deal. While it is unusual for second-round picks to receive guaranteed contracts, there have been instances in the past where players like Jalen Pickett and Chris Livingston inked respectable deals after being picked in the second round of last year’s draft.

Bronny James had a standout game in college against Oregon State and showcased his potential on the court. Despite a modest freshman year at the University of Southern California where he averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, James will have the opportunity to develop with the Lakers and potentially see significant playing time early on
