Breaking the Stigma: A Free Suicide Prevention Summit for Men in Springfield, MO

In an effort to address the above-average male suicide rate in the area, Burrell Behavioral Health is hosting a free suicide prevention summit for men at Hammons Field in Springfield, MO this Saturday. The event aims to create opportunities for open discussions and encourage a relaxed dialogue around serious topics.

During the summit, participants can enjoy an on-field warm-up with Louie, the Springfield Cardinals mascot, as well as coffee and donuts, prize raffles, brain science exercises, and the chance to play catch and take some swings on Hammons Field. Former professional baseball player Drew Robinson will share his own mental health journey following a survived suicide attempt during the event.

Nia Howard, one of the event organizers, recognizes that suicide prevention can be a difficult topic to talk about, especially for men who may have been discouraged from expressing their feelings. However, she emphasizes the importance of breaking the stigma and encourages men to seek help when needed. The summit will provide a safe space for men to come together, share their experiences, and learn how to support each other in times of need.

The event will kick off at 8 a.m. on Saturday and will run until 12:45 p.m. Interested participants can register for the event by clicking the link provided. If there are any corrections or typos in the information, please reach out to digitalnews@ky3.com. Copyright 2024 KY3
