FC Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain have been engaged in a bitter rivalry, both on the pitch and in the transfer market. This rivalry intensified when PSG successfully signed Neymar by triggering his release clause, which had a significant impact on Barcelona. Since then, PSG has also secured players like Ousmane Dembele from the Catalan club.
In their latest attempt, PSG tried to sign Barcelona’s defensive prodigy, Lamine Yamal, with a rejected €200 million offer. However, they are now planning to submit a €250 million offer for the talented youngster. Yamal is not the only player that PSG has shown interest in from the Barcelona squad.
According to reports, PSG Sporting Director, Luis Campos, was also keen on signing defender Pau Cubarsi before Barcelona renewed his contract. Before the renewal, Cubarsi had a release clause of only €10 million, making him a potential bargain for any club. Despite PSG’s efforts, Cubarsi decided to extend his contract with Barcelona citing his desire to stay and succeed at the Catalan club.
Under the new contract that runs until 2027, Cubarsi now has a release clause of €500 million. Barcelona sees this as a way to deter any potential suitors especially PSG who have been known for their aggressive tactics in the transfer market. The Catalan club is confident that Cubarsi’s commitment to Barcelona will ensure he remains with them for years to come.
The rivalry between these two teams continues to heat up as they compete for top talent in the transfer market. It remains to be seen what other moves each team will make in pursuit of success on and off the field.
