Accelerating Action to Close the Gender Gap in Science

Breaking Down Barriers: Empowering Women in Science with UNESCO’s Call for Action

The issue of gender disparity in the field of science continues to persist, with only one in three researchers being women globally. Despite some progress, this ongoing challenge is due to numerous barriers that female scientists face, which can discourage girls from pursuing scientific careers and hinder the progress of women in the field.

To address these barriers and build on key findings and recommendations from the UNESCO Global Forum “The Future for Women and Girls in Science” and the AFNEUS “Women in Science” Congress, an event will be held in collaboration with L’Association fédérative nationale des étudiant.e.s universitaires scientifiques (AFNEUS) to celebrate the 2024 International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This event will also unveil the UNESCO Call for Action “Closing the gender gap in science” and provide valuable insights on initiatives, resources, and best practices to put the Call for Action into practice.
