Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has made history at the US Olympic Trials by breaking the 400-meter hurdles world record for the fifth time. She finished with a time of 50.65 seconds, surpassing her own record set two years ago at Eugene’s Hayward Field. McLaughlin-Levrone’s impressive performance has earned her a spot on the US team for the upcoming Paris Olympics, where she will be a key member and a strong contender to defend her title from three years ago.
Despite only racing the 400m hurdles once earlier in the year, McLaughlin-Levrone dominated her heats leading up to the final. The 24-year-old is expected to face tough competition at the upcoming games, with Dutch athlete Femke Bol being one of her main contenders. Jasmine Jones also qualified to represent the US in the women’s event.
Reflecting on her performance, McLaughlin-Levrone expressed a desire to continue pushing boundaries and improving her race times. She aims to break the 50-second barrier in the future and is constantly looking for ways to enhance her performance on the track. With seven of the 10 fastest times in history and four of her five world records set at Hayward Field, McLaughlin-Levrone continues to solidify her legacy in the sport.
In addition to McLaughlin-Levrone’s impressive performance, Rai Benjamin also set a trials record of 46.46 seconds as he seeks to improve upon his silver medal from Tokyo’s Olympics. Joining him on
