Breaking Barriers: Kim Ng’s Appointment as Senior Advisor at Athletes Unlimited Signals a New Era for Softball

Kim Ng, a trailblazer in Major League Baseball (MLB), has been appointed as senior advisor at Athletes Unlimited. As the first female general manager in MLB’s history, Ng made history in November 2020. Now, she will be overseeing the development of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL), which is set to launch in spring 2025.

Ng’s extensive experience in professional sports has caught the attention of Athletes Unlimited CEO Jon Patricof, who expressed excitement about her joining the team. In addition to her time with the Miami Marlins, Ng has worked as an assistant GM with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees and served as MLB’s senior vice president of baseball operations under Joe Torre.

The AUSL is set to begin with four touring teams and a 30-game season airing on ESPN networks. Former players Jessica Mendoza, Cat Osterman, and Natasha Watley will serve as league advisors and work with Ng on the strategic direction of the AUSL.

Looking ahead, the AUSL aims to expand to six to eight different cities by 2026 in anticipation of softball being included in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. Ng expressed her enthusiasm about joining Athletes Unlimited, viewing it as an opportunity to be part of a significant movement in the sport.
