Ammunition for air defense, artillery, missile systems and armored vehicles is on its way to Ukraine as American President Joe Biden confirmed yesterday after signing a $95 billion law for aid and weapons for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. The US Senate approved the package with bipartisan support, giving the green light for the aid.
President Biden emphasized the importance of moving quickly to send the necessary ammunition to Ukraine. He stressed that this aid package is not just an investment in Ukraine’s security but also in Europe’s security and that of the United States. Despite delays and obstacles in getting the funding approved, the President highlighted the importance of supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had been requesting missiles from the US and now they are finally on their way. The White House National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, stated that President Biden has directed his team to provide Ukraine with a significant number of ATACMS long-range missiles for use within their territory. This move was first reported by Politico and later confirmed by the White House.
Sullivan added that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had been requesting these missiles and now they will be provided by the US military aid package. The missiles, with a range of approximately 260 kilometers, have already been used twice by Kiev. The United States has sent ATACMS long-range missiles to Ukraine to help them defend themselves against Russian aggression.
President Biden warned of the potential consequences if Putin were to attack a NATO ally stating that under Article 5 of NATO collective defense agreement; he would be obligated to come to their aid. Ukrainian President Zelensky expressed his gratitude for this military aid package stating that it is vital step in supporting Ukraine’s defense against Russian aggression.
