Belgian Soprano Jodie Devos Leaves the Classical Music World in Grief at 35
Belgian soprano Jodie Devos has left the classical music world mourning after passing away at the young age of 35. Devos, known for her remarkable talent in the coloratura repertoire of composers like Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti, and Verdi, captivated audiences with her virtuosic singing in the soprano register.
Devos’ final public performance was in April at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, where she left a lasting impression on the audience. Her death has led to an outpouring of grief from the classical music and opera community, with fellow artists paying tribute to her exceptional talent.
Soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan described Devos as a vibrant and radiant artist, while conductor Dirk Brossé mourned the loss of one of Belgium’s greatest musicians. French string soloists Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, as well as American soprano Lisette Oropesa, also expressed their deep sadness over Devos’ passing.
