Bayside Hosts First-Ever Soccer Tournament: Local Sports and Employment Updates

Bayside Soccer hosted its first-ever soccer tournament on November 11th at the Hannahville Ice and Turf sports complex in Wells. The tournament featured teams from Iron Mountain’s 906 FC, Houghton FC, and Bayside Soccer and its affiliate Delta United Soccer Academy.

The goal of the tournament was to provide a fun and competitive playing experience for young athletes while raising funds for the high school team. Organizer Amy Blahnik said, “This is our first time hosting a tournament, and we look forward to having more in the spring and next fall.”

The games were played in a round-robin style with three-on-three matches. The top two teams at the end of group play had a playoff for first place. The 12U group was won by 906 FC, Houghton FC Red took home the prize for the 14U division, and the 16U winners were from Bayside – Delta United Soccer Academy.

Bayside Soccer was established in 1996 to provide recreational soccer for families in the region. Their programs include summer recreation soccer and a High School Club program that competes regionally. Delta United Soccer Academy operates under the Bayside Soccer umbrella and has both fall and winter/spring seasons with almost 60 players aged ten years old and older. They compete with other clubs in the UP and attend tournaments in Wisconsin, focusing on providing high-quality training for players interested in improving their soccer skills.
