Baker Hughes and Snam Join Forces to Power the Future of Hydrogen-Ready Gas Networks with Innovative Turbine Technology

Baker Hughes has announced a partnership with Snam, an energy infrastructure company based in Italy, to provide turbines for compression that can operate on natural gas and gas blends with up to 10% hydrogen. As part of the Adriatic Line project, this technology will play a key role in decarbonizing Snam’s gas network infrastructure.

The new gas compressor station in Sulmona, Italy, will support the transport of energy supplies from Azerbaijan, Africa, and the Eastern Mediterranean region to northern Europe via a 425-km long hydrogen-ready pipeline. This innovative project will contribute to the decarbonization of gas networks and enable the creation of a hydrogen economy in the region. Ganesh Ramaswamy, Executive Vice President of Industrial & Energy Technology at Baker Hughes, emphasized the importance of collaboration in developing technology solutions for decarbonizing energy ecosystems.

“Our commitment to driving innovation and supporting the transition to clean energy sources is reflected in our partnership with Snam,” said Ramaswamy. “The NovaLT12 gas turbine technology is a testament to our efforts to provide sustainable solutions that meet the evolving needs of the energy industry.” The partnership signifies a milestone in advancing the decarbonization of gas networks and accelerating the adoption of hydrogen as a viable energy source.
