Auburn football kicker dealing with a health concern

Auburn’s Redshirt Sophomore Kicker Facing Non-Injury Related Health Issue Ahead of 2024 Season

Redshirt sophomore kicker Alex McPherson of Auburn football is facing a non-injury-related issue as he prepares for his third season with the team. The 2023 season saw McPherson as a Lou Groza Award semifinalist, making all of his field goals and extra points. He was rated as the top kicker in the Class of 2022, and his performance on the field has been noteworthy. However, McPherson’s current health problem is causing concern for his availability in the upcoming season.

Coach Hugh Freeze mentioned McPherson’s health issue at an AMBUSH event, stating that it is still undiagnosed. Despite this setback, Freeze expressed confidence that McPherson will be able to play in the upcoming season.

Auburn is otherwise relatively healthy as they gear up for preseason practices. Redshirt freshman cornerback Tyler Scott will miss the entire 2024 season due to an ACL injury, and offensive lineman Tate Johnson is undergoing minor surgery but is expected to be ready by August. Freeze remains optimistic about the team’s overall health going into the new season.
