Ross Young from DSCC has recently revealed some exciting news for potential buyers of the 12.9-inch iPad Air. According to Young, this new larger iPad Air model will feature the same display technology as the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro. This means that the upcoming iPad Air will incorporate MiniLED technology, which offers improved power efficiency compared to edge-lit LCD panels.
The use of MiniLED technology not only helps in saving power but also results in enhanced contrast ratio, particularly beneficial for video viewing. Unlike LED-backlit LCD panels which struggle to produce true blacks, MiniLED displays come much closer without the drawbacks of OLED panels such as cost and brightness tradeoffs. Apple has been incorporating MiniLED display technology in their recent 12.9-inch iPad Pro models as well as in MacBook Pro devices.
In addition to these advancements, it is expected that the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models will switch to OLED screens for the first time this year. Apple has been incorporating OLED displays in devices like the iPhone and Apple Watch. As for the 12.9-inch iPad Air, it appears to be positioned as an ideal device for media consumption, provided that the pricing is competitive.
Apple is anticipated to launch new iPad models in May, so more details about the features and pricing of the 12.9-inch iPad Air can be expected in the near future.
