Amazon has recently announced that its version of the Astro robot aimed at businesses (Astro for Business) will be discontinued starting September 25. The company will refund the amount invested in these devices to organizations while maintaining the domestic version of the device.
Amazon Astro was first introduced in September 2021 as a device that combined Alexa with a computer vision system to make life easier for users. Initially targeted for home use, its functions were oriented towards caring for dependent people or pets. A year ago, Amazon expanded the availability of Astro to companies in the United States for functions such as monitoring warehouses or touring facilities.
The company has informed that it will no longer offer Astro for Business and will instead focus on delivering consumer robotics solutions for home use. The robots will cease to function once September 25 arrives, and all personal data will be deleted from the devices. Amazon will automatically issue full refunds for the robot purchases and provide an additional $300 credit to the accounts of affected organizations.
This decision by Amazon is part of its commitment to improving its consumer robotics solutions and enhancing their capabilities and performance for domestic tasks.
