
Altoona Soccer Star, Sarver, Earns All-Conference Recognition
Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball program recently picked up several postseason honors from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. Head coach Jamie McGreal was named the coach of the year, and freshman outside hitter Lia Simanski, a Bishop Guilfoyle High School graduate, was selected as the newcomer of the year. Additionally, four student-athletes from the team were recognized on the all-conference list.
Simanski stood out in the AMCC this season, ranking in the top 10 in kills per set (2.77), kills (263), points (293.0), points per set (3.1), and digs (328). Meanwhile, junior libero Anna Batrus took over as starting libero and anchored the team’s defense while playing in all 26 matches. She led the AMCC this season in digs per set (5.55) while being second in total digs (533).
On the other hand, Morgan Sarver from Slippery Rock University was named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women’s soccer all-conference team. As a sophomore forward and a graduate of Altoona Area High School, Sarver started in all 18 of her appearances and finished third in shots and fourth in shots on goal for her team. She ended up tying for second place in team offensive points with six goals and nine assists at 21 points respectively. The Rock ended their season with a record of 12-4-3 overall.
