Allegations result in Craig Monroe being removed from TV broadcasts

Absence of Tigers TV Analyst Craig Monroe: Allegations of Childhood Rape Prompt Indefinite Leave

Craig Monroe, the primary television analyst for the Detroit Tigers, has been absent from their broadcasts since June 7-9, according to a statement from Bally Sports Detroit and the team. The absence is due to allegations made on social media by a woman on Twitter and Instagram. She accused Monroe of raping her when she was a child while he stayed with her family during his time with the Port Charlotte Rangers in the minor leagues.

The organizations have taken these allegations seriously and confirmed that Monroe will continue to be absent indefinitely until further notice. Despite this, Monroe has not yet made an official statement regarding the allegations. The 47-year-old former baseball player has been a member of the Tigers broadcast team for several years following his time playing in Detroit from 2003-2007. His MLB career spanned from 2001 to 2009 and included stops in Texas, Chicago (Cubs), Minnesota, and Pittsburgh.

On July 2, 2024, WDIV received a statement from Bally Sports Detroit and the Tigers addressing the situation. They affirmed that they are aware of the social media allegations against Craig Monroe and are taking them seriously. They also stated that Monroe has not been on the broadcast schedule since June 7-9 and will continue to be absent indefinitely until further notice. Any further questions were directed to Monroe himself
