Pashinyan reiterates the need for a new Constitution in our country

A New Constitution for a New Armenia: Pashinyan’s Call for Organic Representation

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the public on Constitution Day, emphasizing the need for a new Constitution that reflects the ideas and beliefs of the Armenian people themselves. He highlighted the importance of creating a Constitution that is organically connected with its makers, the citizens of the country.

Pashinyan stressed that power in Armenia belongs to the people, both de jure and de facto after the Velvet Revolution of 2018. He pointed out that the current Constitution is in deep socio-psychological conflict with the citizens of Armenia, who feel disconnected from its rules. President Vahagn Khachatryan and National Assembly President Alen Simonyan also sent congratulatory messages on Constitution Day, reiterating their commitment to continuing strengthening the Republic of Armenia.

Simonyan vowed to work towards creating prosperous and dignified lives for citizens, while Khachatryan emphasized that the Constitution serves as a guide in building an Armenia of dreams and aspirations. The United States Embassy in Armenia also extended their congratulations on Constitution Day, marking July 5th as an important milestone in celebrating this important document. Over time, there have been two amendments made to the Constitution through referendums. Pashinyan’s call for a new Constitution earlier this year sparked debates and discussions both within government circles and external sources.
