Exploring Innovations in Assistive Technology: A Hands-On Training Session with LUCI Power Wheelchair System at Mississippi State University’s T.K. Martin Center
Mississippi State University’s T.K. Martin Center for Technology and Disability is thrilled to host a hands-on training session focused on the innovative technology of sensors for power wheelchairs. The event, titled “A Day with LUCI,” will take place on April 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the T.K. Martin Center, aimed at professionals in the field of assistive technology including occupational and physical therapists, speech language pathologists, teachers, and counselors.
The training will provide participants with an introduction to LUCI, a smart sensor power wheelchair system designed to prevent injury and damage during wheelchair use. It includes classroom instruction, an end-user panel discussion, hands-on training, and lunch. Registration is $150 per person and includes a CEU credit. To register for the event visit the T.K Martin Center website
During the hands-on training, participants will learn about LUCI’s programming options, features and how it works on different styles of wheelchairs while practicing using it themselves alerting users when they are too close to an obstacle thereby promoting safety and independent mobility
Rebecca Mathis emphasizes that hands-on experience is crucial in understanding technology’s capabilities and limitations; this session aims at fostering collaboration across disciplines that work with assistive technology to enhance learning opportunities among participants
