1974 Science Fairs and Scouting Trips: A Retrospective Look through Photos

Our ongoing digitization efforts have led us to a set of photos taken 50 years ago during the week of May 1974. The images capture children showcasing their work at a science fair. One girl has won fourth place, while another proudly holds up a commemorative plaque, indicating she won first place. It’s fascinating to see what science fairs were like in Franklin County during that time period. Did you participate and win any prizes? We would love to hear your stories about this special event from 1974.

In addition to the science fair photos, there are images of Boy Scouts from Georgia constructing a miniature log house. Some onlookers can be seen peering out of a building’s window, observing the scouts at work. In other photos, a scout makes silly faces and sticks his tongue out. Do you recognize this boy or know more about him and his scouting troop? We are interested in learning more about the individuals and groups captured in our photos from 1974.

If you or someone you know is featured in our photo sets from 1974, please contact us at archives@samessenger.com or by calling our office at 802-524-9771, Option 3. We would appreciate any information or stories related to the photos we have uncovered from that year.
